Joseph R. Herman, 85, of Cohoes passed away at Diamond Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Friday, November 23, 2018.  He was born in Buffalo, NY and was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Duttry Herman.  Joe graduated from Lafayette High School in Buffalo and Buffalo State Teachers College.  He taught at Forts Ferry Elementary School from 1955-1988.  He was a US Army veteran stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas from September 1957 to March 1958.  Joe was very active in several civic and choral groups in the area.  He was predeceased by his sister and her husband Norma (Glenn) Owen.  He is survived by his nephews, Tom (Cheryl) Owen of Akron, NY, Jim Owen of Akron, NY and Jack (Kelly) Owen of Melbourne, Fl, also survived by 2 great nieces and 1 great nephew. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 12:30pm. Inurnment will follow in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. Those who wish to remember Joe in a special way may donate to the Science of Mind Center, 501 New Karner Road, Suite 2, Albany, NY 12205 or the Men’s Garden Club of Albany, 25 Worthman Lane, Rensselaer, NY 12144 in his memory.
