Joe was our back yard neighbor for 20 something years, he was a sweet man who chatted with us often and use to entertain his friends with yard luncheons. He loved his dogs, enjoyed his yard and put up with our parties he will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace our friend.

Joe was a colleague of mine in the North Colonie School System and a fellow union member and officer of the North Colonie Teachers Association who opened both his heart and home to me during difficult contract negotiations many years ago. I will always remember him as a renaissance man whose kindness and generosity to others came first and foremost. He was an example of a man this troubled world could use more of and will be sorely missed . May he rest in deserved peace.

Uncle Joe was one of a kind......... I met my uncle Joe when my father (Tom Owen) decided to take a family road trip to his beautiful home. This is where I learned to swim in his in ground swimming pool! A memory never forgotten. Any time we visited he made us feel like it was our home to. His welcome personality made you feel welcome. I remember he was always brewing a fresh pot of hazel nut coffee, the aroma would hit your nose as you entered in the door. Uncle Joe will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace uncle. To my Dad(Tom) my uncle Jim and my uncle Jack so sorry for your loss.

I came to know Uncle Joe when my mom married Tom Owen (Uncle Joe’s nephew). Uncle Joe was no different than any other member of the Owen family. The Owens are very kind and generous people. When my husband was interviewing for a job in Albany, Uncle Joe warmly welcomed us into his home for the weekend. I have some fond memories of that weekend sitting on the back porch talking for hours with Uncle Joe. I know from the many stories that were shared growing up that Uncle Joe holds a special place in his family’s heart. We will miss you Uncle Joe. Our prayers are with you all, especially my Dad (Tom), Jim, and Jack.

When I was young, Uncle Joe would always come to Buffalo to Grandma Herman's for the holidays. I remember him always carving the turkey or whatever we were having for dinner. He would always say grace and would be helping grandma clean up. He would put up a Christmas tree for us the day he got into town which sometimes was Christmas Eve. Then he would take it down before he went back to Cohoes. We lived about 20 miles away from Grandma's house. One year when I was about 8 years old or so we were going home from Grandma Herman's after Thanksgiving dinner. On the way home the clutch went in our car so Uncle Joe came and picked us up and took us home. I got car sick and threw up in the back seat of his Lincoln. All he worried about was if I was OK all the way home. I'm 56 years old now and have never come across a more caring and helpful person. Thank you and love you always Uncle Joe!

Joe was a great man. I had the privilege of knowing Joe through the garden club at the Center for Disability Services. He really helped our guys come to like gardening planting and watching things grow. I used to like talking with him he told some great stories. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Sleep in peace Joe an continue to watch us as we plant. My deepest sympathies to the family. May you find comfort in knowing Joe was an inspiration to many people and brought alot of joy to them. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Joe always loved coming to the Center for Disability Services every Wednesday for garden club. Our folks LOVED him so much. He was always so kind. We especially loved when he would play his Ukulele for us and sing. We will miss you Joe Herman, RIP.
