Ravena Michael L. McCarthy, 59, of Ravena passed away at Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany on Sunday June 22, 2014. Born in Troy, he was the son of Joan Parker McCarthy of Cohoes and the late Robert McCarthy. He was a US Navy Veteran. He worked several years for the Department of Corrections. He was an avid spiritualist, enjoyed reading and Sunday drives. Survivors in addition to his Mother is his adoring daughters, Kasey McCarthy (Steve Nobles) of Cairo, N.Y. and Kaylin McCarthy of Athens, N.Y., his granddaughter Alexsandra Nobles, best friend and companion Kate Handy. Brother of Karen (Mike) Bloomer, Joanne Johnson, Daniel McCarthy, Robert McCarthy and Kathy (Edward) Foy, also survived by several nieces, nephews and the Mother of his children Lisa McDonald of Catskill. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Thursday 10:00am at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes with Deacon Charles Valenti officiating followed by inurnment in Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N.Y. At Michaels request there will be no viewing hours. Those who wish to remember Michael in a special way may make a contribution to the Alzheimers Association, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, N.Y. 12205.
