Cohoes William H. Stokes, 90, of Waterside Way, Cohoes, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013 with his family by his side at Samaritan Hospital, Troy after a long illness. He was born in Crescent, N.Y. on April 29, 1923 and was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Maycock Stokes. He was a graduate of Cohoes High School Class of 1940. Bill was a World War II US Army Veteran serving with the 803 rd M.P. Battalion during the North African and Italian Campaigns. He was employed for 38 years as a shipping leader in the finishing department at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. in Watervliet and retired in 1980. He was a member of the United Church of Cohoes, a 50 year member of the Evening Star Lodge #75, F & A M and a member of Palestine Star Chapter #167 OES. He also served ten years as Secretary-Treasurer of the Cohoes Fellowcraft Club. He was the husband of Mary Jane Boyd Stokes of Cohoes for over 67 years; he is survived by his sister-in-law, Shirley Sedlacek of Pittsburgh, also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews. Funeral Thursday, 11:00am at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes with Pastor Nick TeBordo officiating. Interment in Memorys Garden, Colonie. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7pm. Those who wish to remember Bill in a special way may make a contribution to the United Church of Cohoes.
