Obituary of Edna F. Hamill
Please share a memory of Edna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cohoes – Edna Feeney Hamill, 98, of Cohoes passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017. She was born October 16, 1918 in Berwick, PA, the 12th of 13 children born to Frank and Jenni Moharter Feeney. At the age of eighteen she was brought to Cohoes by her sister, Bertha Greene and her husband Harold Greene. For the past 81 years, Edna called Cohoes her "home". She married C.J. (Whitey) Hamill in March of 1942. Together they had three children; Charles (Jacqui) Hamill of Rock Hill, SC, Patricia (George) Galarneau of Stillwater, NY and Karen (Kevin) Gervais of Speigletown, NY. She was blessed with three grandchildren; Patrice (Bruce) Fossette, Cheryl (Tom) Farrell and Cindy (Rob) Wright who blessed her with seven great grandchildren; Thomas (Odette) Orr, Alicia Orr, Justin (Anya) Orr, Faith Kingsley, Corinne Wright, Becca Wright and Kari Farrell. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She enjoyed many, many wonderful friends. She learned to drive in her fifties and her car was always filled with friends with whom she shopped, lunched and took long drives. She worked twenty-five years for the Jupiter Store in Cohoes. She bowled for many years in Cohoes and Green Island for up to three times a week well into her 98th year. Edna's mantra in life was always "Do the best you can with what you got" and she did just that her whole life. She will be missed by family and friends. We thank all the doctors, nurses, physical therapists and, especially Hospice, for their tender caring of her. There will be not viewing hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 30, 2017, 10:00am at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes with Pastor Nick TeBordo officiating. Inurnment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, Edna suggested small donations be sent to The Haven, 2686 Route 9, Malta, NY 12020 where Dr. Desiree Thibeault cared for her cats as if they were her own, oftentimes at no charge or at greatly reduced fees. May she Rest in Peace knowing our lives will go on, molded by the love she shared with us and the fine example she set for us of a life well lived.
