Obituary of James J. Klar, Sr.
Cohoes – James J. Klar Sr., 83, of Cohoes passed away at Columbia Memorial Health, Hudson, NY on Friday, November 1, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born and educated in Cohoes and was the son of the late Francis and Margaret Bowler Klar. He worked at Norton Company (Behr Manning) in Watervliet for more than 40 years before his retirement. Jimmy worked for over 50 years at the Dufresne Funeral Home in Cohoes. Worked at Lanthier’s Grove part time for the summer for many years. A huge part of Jimmy’s life was bowling, he was Past President and Director for the Troy Bowling Association for many years. He belonged to the Jackson Avenue Businessman League, the Cohoes Classic League, and the Sunday Social Mixed League at the Cohoes Bowling Alley. He was inducted in the Troy Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2004 for meritorious service. He was an avid golfer, card player, NY Met Fan and Buffalo Bills Fan. He was a member of the Cohoes Knights of Columbus Council #192 and Elks Watervliet Lodge No 1500. Husband of the late Kathryn Roach Klar. He is survived by his children, Pamela (Rick) Bertrand of Cohoes, James Klar Jr (Lois) of Speigletown and Papa Bear to Michelle (Mikki) Klar Shader of Charolette, NC, Kyle Shader of Wilton, grandfather of Jacob, Nathan, and Brendan. Brother of Anna (Jack) Dingley and the late Irene Thibodeau, Norrine Trudeau, Edward Kenton, Patricia Walsh, Frank Klar, Mary King, Karen Klar and Francis Kenton. Also survived by his Brother-in-law Ronald LaChance Sr. of Ma., many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 6, 2024, at 11:00am at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes with Rev. Nick TeBordo officiating. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7pm. Friends who wish to remember Jimmy in a special way may donate to the Troy Bowling Association Youth Scholarship Fund, 1930 7th Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189 in his memory.
