Obituary of Ethel T Coutu
Cohoes – Ethel T. Coutu, 93, of Cohoes passed away at her home on Sunday, May 19, 2024, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Cohoes and was the daughter of the late Albert J. Casey and Eva C. Bariteau. She was educated at St. Joseph’s Grammar School, Cohoes and graduated from Cohoes High School. Ethel started her career in 1948 with McKinney Steel in Albany performing payroll services and completed her work career as "Cafeteria Lunch Lady” at Keveny Memorial Academy from 1970-1978. She was involved in The Home School Association at St. Bernard’s and Keveny Memorial Academy as well as a Eucharistic Minister at the former St. Bernard’s Church in Cohoes. She enjoyed her nine years at Columbia Crest where she was an avid card and Bingo player, and a friend to all. Ethel was the beloved wife of 62 years of the late Joseph W. Coutu. Survivors are her children, William J. (Cathy) Coutu of Waterford, AnnMarie (Timothy) Spellman of Williamsville, NY, Susan M. Castle of Cohoes (the late Mark Castle) and (the late Arthur Smith), Patricia A. (Scott) Keith of Waterford. In addition she is survived by ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Sister of the late Lucille Husarik. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 10:00am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Latham, NY. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford. The family will receive relatives and friends at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 4 to 7pm. Contributions in Ethel’s memory may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Latham, NY. The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Costello and Dr. Andrew Robinson for their continuous compassionate care over the years, in addition to Community Hospice.
