Waterford – Leonard C. Evertsen, 77, of Waterford, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at NHC Nursing Home in Bluffton, SC. Born in Cohoes, NY on September 17, 1946, attended grade school at St. Mary’s in Waterford and graduated from LaSalle in Troy. He joined the 1018th Army Reserves out of Albany, NY in 1968. He was activated to Vietnam in 1969. He returned home and entered a tool-and-die apprentice program and started his career at G.E. in Schenectady, NY where he retired in 2000. Nothing was more important to him than family, especially all the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren. In the early years, he was his children’s soccer coach and became his grandchildren’s number one fan, rarely missing a game for his children or grandchildren. Leonard’s favorite places were on the sideline of the soccer field, at Walt Disney World, and in the woods. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and archery. He spent “social hour” at the gym meeting many friends. He loved going out to eat. He spent much of his life surrounded by many family members and close friends. Len is survived by his wife of 57 years Katherine (Smollin) Evertsen, his children Tanya Evertsen Coonradt (Jack), Leonard Evertsen (Stacie), and Scott Evertsen (Shannon) and his grandchildren Cody, Tyler, Haylee, Hunter, Breann, and Ryan, and sister Diane (Evertsen) Peterson. He is preceded in death by his parents Florence (Pailley) Evertsen and Albert (George) Evertsen, and sibling Donald Evertsen. Funeral services will be held at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 11:00am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9 to 11 prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
