Obituary of Donald T Gray
Colonie – Donald T. Gray, 97, of Colonie passed away peacefully at Van Rensselaer Manor, Troy on Saturday, April 6, 2024, with his daughters by his side. He was born in Buffalo, NY and was the son of the late Thomas and Lillian Schmelzer Gray. He graduated from Van Rensselaer High School, Class of 1944, and from Sampson College. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II stationed in the South Pacific and was a pharmacist mate. He was a supervisor at the Albany Post Office for over 30 years before his retirement and was President of the Supervisors Union for the Post Office. He was an avid piano player, playing for the Beltrone Singers. He was a world traveler, and an avid golfer. A member of Bethany Reformed Church in Albany. Husband of the late Elizabeth Heidrich Gray for 59 years. Father of Kathryn (Ed) Kingsley of Latham and Nancy Walker of Cohoes. Grandfather of Alexander and Christina, also survived by nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 11:00am at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes with Rev. Nick TeBordo officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Albany. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10:00 to 11:00am prior to the service. Those who wish to remember Don in a special way may donate to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, Menands, NY or Church of the Holy Trinity, Cohoes Food Pantry in his memory. The family would like to thank all those who took good care of him, especially the staff at Unit B 1 at Van Rensselaer Manor.
