Obituary of Joseph S. Karas
Cohoes – Joseph S. Karas, 73, of Cohoes passed away at Samaritan Hospital, Troy on Monday, April 24, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born and educated in Poland and was the son of the late Walter and Leokadia Deszcz Karas. While living in Poland he was a welder then moving to the United States he was a baker for Freihofer Baking in Albany for many years before his retirement. Most of all he enjoyed his children and grandchildren. Joseph is survived by his wife of 54 years, Halina Karas of Cohoes, his children Walter (Kristina) Karas of Gloversville, Beata Nash of Florida, Andrew (Katje) Karas of Cohoes, Stanley (Tanya) Karas of Latham, and Joseph (Valerie) Karas of Latham, grandfather of Katelyn, Ashley, Zachary, Justin, Bennett, Andrew and Aiden and great grandfather of Sierra, Chelsey, Raelynn, Emily, and Mason. Brother of Stanley, Krystina and Boguska, also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Church, Cohoes on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 11:00am. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Waterford. The family will receive friends at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Wednesday, from 4 to 7pm. Friends who wish to remember Joe in a special way may donate to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Rockville, MD in his memory.
