Obituary of John W. Malik
Cohoes – John W. Malik, 92, of Cohoes passed away with his family by his side on Friday, December 30, 2022. He was born in Melrose, NY and educated in Lansingburgh school system, son of the late Karol (Charles) and Aniela (Angela) Sierzega Malik. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Green Island for many years before his retirement. John was Past Grand Knight of Latham-Colonie Knights of Columbus and a 4th Degree member. He was an usher at St. Bernard’s Church in Cohoes and on the Parish Council. He worked on the Food Pantry committee at St. Ambrose Church in Latham. John was a large supporter of Catholic education, including St. Bernard’s, Keveny Memorial Academy and Cohoes Catholic. Husband of the late Jane E. Lacy Malik. Father of Judy Lacy Pepe (Thomas) of Mechanicville, Gail Ann Cashin (Thomas) of Cohoes, Catherine M. Zorko (late Barry) of South Carolina, Dawn Daubney (Thomas A.) of Clifton Park, Wendy Cassavaugh (Gary) of Argyle and Patrice Maksymik (Michael) of Waterford. Grandfather of Taylor (Diana) and Jordan Pepe, Erin (Michael) Barilla, William, Daniel, and Cameron (Natalie) Cashin, Emily and Brian (Kathlyn)Daubney and John (Katie) and Andrew Maksymik and Christina Hilton, great grandfather of Chloe, Dominic, Madelyn, Michael, Jade, T J and June. He was predeceased by his siblings, James, Frank, Stanley, Sophie, Nellie, Carrie, and Cecilia, also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 9:30am. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes. The family will receive friends at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., Cohoes on Wednesday from 4 to 7pm. Friends who wish to remember John in a special way may donate to St. Ambrose Church Food Pantry in his memory. The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Samaritan Hospital Emergency Room, ICU and 5th floor. You all treated Dad with love and respect. Also thank you to Dad’s home caregivers: Tia, Niqua and Lucia. Dad loved you all. Thank you for being there when we could not.
