Obituary of Michael O. Shumpis
Troy – Michael Shumpis, 68, of Troy, passed away at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. He was born in Fort Dix, New Jersey and was the son of the late Edward and Marilyn Tofte Shumpis. He was a graduate of Cohoes High School. Michael retired from Coxsackie Correctional Facility as a sergeant after many years of service. He was an avid gamer, he liked working on cars, he was a handyman. Most of all he enjoyed his family. Husband of the late Joann Herring Shumpis. He is survived by his children, Brian (Candace) Shumpis, David (Lisa) Kohls, John (Alynn) McTighe, Darcy (Kohls) Gamache, and Anna Desnoyers, his twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Brother of Phyllis Sequin and David Shumpis and the late Gloria Shumpis. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 10:00am at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes. Interment will follow in Waterford Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 4 to 7pm. Friends who wish to remember Michael in a special way may donate to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
