Vera S Grandchamp Obituary

Cohoes – Vera Szandyba Grandchamp, 72, entered into eternal peace on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at her home with her loving husband by her side. She was born in Henley, England on July 25, 1949, to Chrystyna and Danylo Szandyba, and immigrated to the United States in 1957 along with her two younger brothers, where they settled in Cohoes. She graduated from Keveny Memorial Academy (1967) and Albany Business College (1969) with an Associates Degree. She worked at Community Health Plan (CHP) Kaiser Permanente Division as Assistant Director of Human Resources until its closure. Vera was known as a fabulous cook, especially of traditional Ukrainian foods, and for her love of gardening. She was a devoted wife to Lawrence, her husband of 52 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a loving Baba to her grandchildren. Vera is survived by her husband, Lawrence, her sons, Matthew, and Jonathan (Christine), and her grandchildren Ethan, Sarah, and Adam. She will be remembered by her brothers, Walter (Sharlene) and Dan (Nancy) Szandyba, as well as by her nieces Laura Szandyba and Tara Szandyba Allen (Mitch), and nephews Walter and Kordymer Szandyba. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Church of the Holy Trinity, Cohoes on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 11:30am. Inurnment will follow in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. The family will receive friends at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 4 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Vera’s memory to the Northeast Kidney Association, as she was the grateful recipient of a donor kidney 29 years ago.
