Cohoes – Carolyn Cavanaugh Biittig, 79, of Cohoes passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020 after a long illness. She was born in Cohoes and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Marjorie Hourigan Cavanaugh. She graduated from Cohoes High School, Class of 1958 and was a lifelong resident of Cohoes. Carolyn was a longtime homemaker and cared for her family. Carolyn began work in the medical field as a receptionist with Dr. Mitchell in Cohoes and continued at Seton Health in Troy for many years before retiring. She was a longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church in Cohoes and member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham. Throughout her life, her family was most important to her. She brought so much joy to everyone around her with her contagious laugh and smile. Carolyn enjoyed reading, family parties, traveling with the Prime Timer’s group, and an occasional trip to Snowman’s for her favorite Rum Raisin ice cream. She was the loving wife of the late Walter Biittig. Mother of Sherri (Michael) Lenz of Waterford, Jeffrey (Donna) Smith of Sparta NJ and Timothy (Carol) Biittig of Clifton Park, grandmother of Joshua (Brittany) Smith, Steven (Michelle) Smith, Kathleen (Marc) McCune, Evan Biittig and Walter (Traci) Hatz and 2 great grandchildren, Kaia and Caleb . Carolyn is also survived by many dedicated and loving in-laws, neighbors, cousins, and extended family friends. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children and/or Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham.
