Clifton Park – Mary Jean Mullen Melanson, 87, of Clifton Park and formerly of Cohoes, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Samaritan Hospital, Troy on Thursday, October 24, 2013 after a brief illness. She was born in Cohoes, educated in St. Agnes School, Cohoes, graduated from Catholic Central High School and attended Mildred Elley School. Daughter of the late William and Mary Prairie Mullen. Jean was predeceased by her husband Ernest M. Melanson. She is survived by her children, Lou Anne (George) Bigaouette of Clifton Park, Gary (Linda) Melanson of Cohoes, Lynn (Robert) Grant of Ballston Lake and Alan (Cathy) Melanson of Clifton Park and five grandchildren. Sister of the late William Mullen, also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Tuesday, 9:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, Crescent where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The family will receive friends at the Church, one hour prior to the Mass. Interment private at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford. Those who wish to remember Mary Jean in a special way may make a contribution to Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, N.Y. 12144 or the charity of one’s choice.
