Obituary of Dorothea A. Garneau

Dorothea F. Garneau, 88, of Troy passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Van Rensselaer Manor surrounded by her loving family. Born in Troy on May 10, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Nels and Susan Keene Christensen. She was predeceased by her brother William and sister-in-law Anne Christensen and her daughter-in-law Lisa Garneau. A graduate of Lansingburgh High School, she worked at the main branch of Peoples Manufacturing Bank, Behr Manning and Shoemaker Paper Co. prior to working 27 years at the NYS PSC, retiring as Secretarial Assistant to the Secretary of the PSC in 1990. Dorothea enjoyed traveling to many locations around the world. She will be missed by her friends in the Spindle City Divas Red Hat Society, the Royal Sassy Divas Black Hat Society and especially the Wrecking Crew with whom she had many of her traveling adventures. She was a former member of the Elks Lodge #2556 of Brunswick. She was a former communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lansingburgh and Transfiguration Parish Speigletown. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Joseph) Stopera of Cohoes, sons Todd (Paula) Garneau of Cohoes and Keith Garneau of Schenectady, sister-in-law Lillian Lagace of Cohoes also survived by 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral Friday September 25, 2015 10:00am at Transfiguration Parish South, Speigletown where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Inurnment private at the convenience of the family in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. Relatives and friends may call at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Thursday from 4 to 7pm. Those who wish to remember Dorothea in a special way may make a contribution to the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110 in her memory.
