Eugene T. Guertin, 74, of Waterford, passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center on April 12, 2026.


Born in Plattsburgh, New York, Eugene was raised and educated in Troy. He was the son of the late Henry Guertin and Doris St. Andrew Guertin. Eugene built a dedicated career as a boat captain with Montauk Oil Company in New York City, where he worked until his retirement.


Eugene was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures and in the people he loved most. He cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness. He had a lifelong passion for model cars and enjoyed attending car shows. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter, later developing a deep love for animals, particularly his dogs. He also enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool, watching movies, and listening to music.


He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail DeCicco Guertin of Waterford; his children, Eugene (Debbie Derosia) Guertin Jr. of Vermont, Darcy (Don Johnson) MacGregor of Waterford, John Paul (April) Guertin of Waterford, and Melissa (Joel Harker) Guertin of Cohoes; and his cherished grandchildren, Hunter, Connor, Dylan, Cathryn (Phillips), Blake, Cole, Makayla, and Gage Guertin. He is also survived by his sisters, Joanne Guertin and Linda Guertin, both of Waterford, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Lucille Guertin.


Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dufresne Funeral Home, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes.


Eugene will be remembered for his strength, his love of family, and the warmth he brought to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
