Troy – Lawrence W. Girard, 87, died peacefully at VanRensselaer Manor Nursing Home in Troy, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on December 3, 1938, in Cohoes; the son of Loretta (Sawyer) Girard and Francis Girard. Larry graduated from Keveny Memorial Academy in 1956. Following graduation, he went to work at RPI Labs, followed by a stint fixing small appliances for GE in a service center in Latham. He started a long career in milk delivery when he became a residential delivery “milkman” for Sealtest in Latham. When Sealtest left Latham, he worked for Borden’s in Menands. When Borden’s gave up the residential delivery routes, he bought his routes and started: Girard’s Dairy, when he ran until convenience stores made home dairy delivery obsolete. He used his driving skills to work for Purolator Courier service until he retired. He always worked one or two other jobs to make ends meet. He married his high school sweetheart, Mildred McGork, and they settled in Latham in Whitney Estates. They celebrated 66 years of marriage in April of 2025. Larry was a loyal member of the K of C in Latham, and a past member of the Elks Club in Latham. He was an Eagle Scout, who became a Scout Master for his boys in Latham. He also coached his kids in Little League and eventually served as Umpire in chief for Latham Little League. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William. Surviving in addition to his wife, Mildred McGork Girard; are his sons, Mark Lawrence (Dawn) Girard, Michael James (Martina) Girard, David William (Dawn) Girard, Brian Francis Girard, and his daughter Lori Ciarmella. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Brother of Donna Moran and a niece. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Church, Latham on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 10:30am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford.
