Niskayuna – Gerard E. (Gary) Mangione, 88, of Niskayuna and Latham, passed away at the Eddy Village Green, Cohoes with his family by his side on Monday, October 27, 2025. He was born in Troy and was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Kehn Mangione. He graduated from Troy High School, where he played on the basketball team. Gary was owner and operator of his family locksmith business, Joseph P. Mangione, Inc., in Troy with his father, Joseph, and brother, Michael. He was one of the first members of the Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA). Gary had a pilot’s license and liked to fly. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed his time at Saratoga Lake. He played golf, liked to ski, ran in the Troy Turkey Trot, and enjoyed wood working. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Troy before moving to Latham where they joined St. Ambrose Church. He was a member of the Adoration Society and volunteered with the Food Pantry. They were season ticket holders at RPI Hockey until the family moved to Latham when they began to follow Siena Basketball. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Yetto Mangione of Niskayuna, his children Gary (Zoriana) Mangione of Ballston Lake, Gregory Mangione (Kelly Ogborn) of Cohoes and Melissa (John) Vatalaro of Malta, his grandchildren Nicholas, Andrea, Samantha and Sarah and great grandson, Leo. Brother of Susan (late Thomas) Ostrowski of Cohoes and the late Joseph (Florence) Mangione and Michael (Marie) Mangione, also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Church, Latham on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 10:30am. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet, NY. Relatives and friends may call at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Friday, October 31, 2025 from 4 to 7pm.
