Cohoes -John Arthur Rosbozom passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, at St. Peter’s Hospital at the age of 94. Born on April 23, 1931, he was the son of the late John S. and Loretta R. (Lefebvre) Rosbozom. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Claire M. (Daigneault) Rosbozom. He is survived by his son, John A. Rosbozom of Cohoes and his daughter, Janice A. Cook, and son-in-law James Cook of Latham. He was the beloved Pepere of Colette F. Cook Barbaro (Billy) and Lauren K. Cook (Dominic Ianni). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, along with many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Leo J. Rosbozom (Estelle), and his brothers-in-law, Leo A. Daigneault, Sr. (Marie) and Paul W. Daigneault.
John grew up in the Northside section of Waterford and attended St. Anne’s school. He was a proud graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, class of 1949, and of Siena College, class of 1959. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 as a Corporal with the 3rd Marine Airwing in communications being stationed in Miami, Florida. John met Claire in 1949 at a mutual friend’s party. Their first date was the senior ball at LaSalle Institute. They were married in St. Joseph’s Church in Cohoes on April 25, 1953. They were blessed to be able to celebrate their 50th, 60th and 70th anniversaries with family and friends. His first job was working for Freihofer’s Bakery making deliveries and collecting payments while riding its horse drawn wagon. After high school, he was a draftsman with General Electric in Schenectady. Upon graduating from Siena College with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics, he worked for New York State as an accountant in various departments, retiring in 1990 from the Division for Youth. For over 50 years, with the assistance of his wife, he ran an accounting business out of his home doing income tax returns and bookkeeping for small businesses, retiring at the age of 80. John and Claire hosted many family gatherings and enjoyed traveling, including trips to Williamsburg VA, Bermuda, Hawaii, Alaska, Italy, England, Ireland, and their annual summer vacation to Cape Cod with their children and granddaughters. His favorite activity was spending time with his granddaughters including attending their softball and other sporting events, concerts, and dance recitals. He was a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #192 in Cohoes. He served many titles including Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, District Executive Board Member, and a member of the Fourth Degree #734, as well as working at its various events including Bingo. He received the honor of Knight of the Year in 1998. John was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish (formerly St. Marie’s) of Cohoes, and contributed his time and talent as President of its Parish Council, Finance Committee, Nocturnal Adoration Society, usher, Eucharistic Minister and was one of the first lectors in 1966 continuing through 2025. He was also an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop #670. John lived his life with deep devotion to his family, along with his devout Roman Catholic faith and devotion to the Blessed Virgin.
John’s family would like to thank his niece, Kelly A. Daigneault, RN, for her loving assistance in his care, along with Dr. Tami Seaman, Dr. Rafael Papaleo, and the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and its Hospice Unit who gave comfort and care to John and his family in his final days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford.
