Obituary of Calvin R. DeLorimiere
Calvin Richard DeLorimiere, of Halfmoon NY, passed away on March 11, 2025 at the age of 89. Born on December 16, 1935, of the late Joseph and Agnes (Peltier) DeLorimiere, he was a near lifelong resident of Cohoes, NY, graduated class of 1953 from Cohoes High School, and a vibrant member of the community. A member of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe in Hogansburg, NY he enjoyed dual citizenship between the nations. He celebrated a lifelong career with the Department of Criminal Justice Services of NYS, as a mainframe computer programmer and supervisor, until his retirement.
Known as Dad, Grandpop, Poppy, Uncle Doc, Kanentakeron, “Sugar Shark” and simply, friend, to so many, it’s impossible to capture the impact of his absence on our community. Cal was the living embodiment of the person who would give you the shirt off his back. He exemplified generosity and gratitude every day, knowing that each moment was a gift right up til his last moments.
You could tell his laugh from a mile away, and it was impossible not to smile when you did. But the quieter moments resonate just as loudly in his absence: the strong hugs when you were struggling, soft words of wisdom, cuddling with his grandkids, and just being present when he was needed. He was the person who checked in on everyone else, and the glue behind so many connections. He truly aimed to leave this world better than he found it, and he most certainly did.
Brother of James (Jeanette) DeLorimiere of Indiana, Roland (Barbara) DeLorimiere of Texas, and Mary Ann Joslin of Buskirk, and predeceased by siblings Joseph DeLorimiere, Agatha Cummings and Margaret Bonesteel who, together, comprise the infamous “Magnificent Seven”. “Uncle Doc” is loved and missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Cal is survived by his daughters, Tiffany Lyman Otten (Gordon Horne-Otten, ex Luke Otten), Kimberly Ann Hamilton (Thomas), and grandchildren Liam Otten, Edward Hamilton & Isabella Hamilton. Of all his titles in life, being Dad, Granddad, Grandpop, and Poppy were his most cherished.
Cal believed strongly in giving what you can to help others, and as such was an organ donor and offered his body as an anatomical gift to science. In lieu of flowers, registering to be an organ donor would be a beautiful way to honor his legacy. He was a lifelong member of the Polish American Club of Cohoes, the National Rifle Association, and multiple wounded veterans’ charities.
