
Obituary of John R. Dingley
Cohoes - John R. (Jack) Dingley, 87, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, after a brief illness at his daughters’ home in Ballston Lake, NY. He was born in Cohoes on December 10, 1937, and raised by his uncle and aunt, the late Henry and Gretchen Pellitier. He was a graduate of Cohoes High School and a lifelong resident of Cohoes.
Jack retired as a firefighter from the City of Cohoes after 22 years of service to the residents of Cohoes. Prior to that he worked for the Cohoes Carry Bag Company. In retirement he continued working in his wood shop, crafting cabinetry and other wood creations.
Jack was devoted to both family and friends. He learned his craftsmanship skills at the knee of his Uncle Henry. He further perfected his woodworking skills through an apprenticeship at HVCC. Jack was always there to lend a hand or to help someone in need. Jack is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna Klar Dingley of Cohoes, his two daughters, SueAnn (Thomas) Nicholson and Elizabeth (Robert) Marion and brothers Raymond and William. He is also survived by two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son, Robert, grandson, Mark E Bouleris, and brothers Albert, MD, and Thomas.
He was a member of Evening Star Lodge, No. 75, Free and Accepted Masons, Latham, NY, Latham Chapter No.168, Royal Arch Masons, and Van Rensselaer Star Chapter, No. 12, Order of the Eastern Star, East Greenbush, NY.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Community Hospice, especially Kelly and Colleen, during the final days of his journey. The family will receive friends at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes, NY, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 4 to 7pm. At 6:30pm an Eastern Star Memorial Service will be conducted by Van Rensselaer Star Chapter, No. 12, followed by a Masonic funeral service, conducted by Evening Star Lodge, No. 75. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 26 at 11:00am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.
