George Omer Blais, 82 passed away peacefully at his home on June 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born and educated in Cohoes, son of the late Omer & Alice Boyer Blais.
The things George cherished the most were his family, his church and preparing meals and cakes for all those whom he loved dearly. He enjoyed taking family vacations, especially at Grafton State Park and Lake Sacandaga where he was known for his famous Blueberry Pancakes.
As a teenager he developed a love for automobiles working as a mechanic. His dream car was to own a Jaguar. He enjoyed going to Car Shows where he showcased his vast knowledge of vehicles to family. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1965-1969 with an honorable discharge. George worked as a stock clerk for Montgomery Wards for 33 years. He was active in Marriage Encounter and was part of the Focolare Movement. He was also part of the Maranatha Prayer group. He graduated with Honors from Schenectady County Community College with a degree in Culinary Arts in 1995.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 ½ years Doris Blais, his three children Denise (George) Toften, Steven (Rebecca) Blais, Rosemarie Blais. He had five grandchildren that loved him dearly: Gabriel Bartoli, Leo Bartoli, Isabelle Blais, Noah Blais, Oliver Blais. He is also survived by his brother John Paul (Helen) Blais.
He was predeceased by his sisters Theresa Gibeau, and Marie Rose Vautrin, his brothers: Leopold and Laurent Blais. Also survived by several neices and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday June 6, 2023, from 4PM-7PM at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes, NY.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday June 7, 2023, 10:30 AM at St. Ambrose Church, Latham.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Holy Trinity Church, Alzheimer’s Association and Community Hospice.
