Obituary of James F. Cook

Latham – James F. Cook, 71, of Latham passed away at his home on Thursday, January 4, 2018 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in Cohoes to the late Frank and Edna Couture Cook. He graduated from Shaker High School Class of 1964 and from Hudson Valley Community College with an Associates Degree in Civil Engineering in 1966. Jim was a US Army Veteran serving as a Military Policeman with the 984th MP Company stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado from 1966-1968. He had a 50-year career as a land surveyor, retiring recently after 40 years at CT Male Associates. Jim also worked part time for 20 years at United Parcel Service. Jim was a lifelong communicant of St. Michael's Church, Cohoes and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Jim was also very active in Boy Scouts, serving as a leader and was very proud of the fact that both of his sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Jim enjoyed wood working, the outdoors with activities such as camping, hiking, canoeing, and reading books on military history. Jim spent spare time building model air planes and had achieved his lifelong dream of taking flying lessons to fly an airplane. Husband of Gail Krutka Cook of Latham, his children, Jill (Vince) Baran, Kathleen Cook, Mary Ellen Cook, Robert (Lindsey) Cook, and David Cook. Cherished grandfather of Daniel and Julie Baran and Anna and Matthew Cook. Brother of Elizabeth Atkinson, Joan Jones and nephew of Roger Couture. Also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, was predeceased by his two godchildren, Richard Estep and Heidi Roberts. Relatives and friends may call at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 2 to 4pm. Funeral will be private at the convenience of the family. Those who wish to remember Jim in a special way may make donations to the American Cancer Society in his memory. .
