Obituary of George J LeBlanc

George J. LeBlanc, 94, of Troy passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 after a brief illness. Born and educated in Cohoes he was the son of the late Louis and Laura Demarais LeBlanc. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving in World War II, in Washington, D.C. and in the Pacific Fleet aboard the USS Bennington. Following the service he returned home to settle down work hard and raise a family. What leisure time he had was spent vacationing with family, prowling the Adirondacks in search of whitetail deer or working in his garage. He retired from Schenectady General Electric as a welder. In retirement he spent his winters in Florida where he made many lasting friendships, his family away from family. Returning from Florida summers were spent at Cossayuna Lake and his home in Troy where he was surrounded by family and more friends. While George was a strong, independent man, family was very important to him. He was a hero, historian and great storyteller to his grandchildren who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, the late Ellen Neyland LeBlanc whom he married on July 1, 1944 in Portsmouth, VA. He is survived by his children Gail (Michael) Ellrott of Schenectady, Gerald (Eileen) LeBlanc of Argyle, and Richard (Sandra) LeBlanc of Waterford; grandchildren Christine (Daniel) Paul, Tracy (Claude) Sawyer, Carolyn (Christopher) Lapham, Steven (Tana) LeBlanc, Kelli (John) Mazzariello, Jason LeBlanc, and Ricky LeBlanc and 18 great grandchildren. he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. George was also predeceased by his sister Laura Marcil, his brother William LeBlanc and his longtime friend and companion Margaret Kubicki. Funeral will be Wednesday, July 6th 10 A.M. at St. Joseph Church, Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Waterford.
