Cohoes – James E. Minnick, Sr., 86, of Cohoes died at St. Peter’s Hospice on Monday, September 16, 2013 after a short illness. He was born in Poultney, Vermont, graduated from Poultney High School and was the son of the late Lewis and Ella Gilbertson Minnick Reed. He was a machine operator at Norton Company in Watervliet for 33 years retiring in 1989. He also worked at the Troy News part time. He served in the United States Navy in World War II, stationed in Hawaii 1945-46. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, walking, most of all sharing time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Watervliet Elks, American Legion Mohawk Post #1450 and St. Ambrose Church, Latham and St. Joseph’s Church, Cohoes. He was predeceased by his siblings, Lewis Minnick, Jr., Caroline Minnick, Mary Culligan and Marjorie Godzik. Beloved husband for 52 years to Jeanne Charbonneau Minnick of Cohoes. Father of James E. (Laura) Minnick, Jr. of Voorheesville, Joan E. Minnick of Cohoes and John E. (Laurie) Minnick, Sr. of Latham. Grandfather of Alexander, Thomas, John, Jr., Andrew, Danielle and Tyler Minnick, also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral Friday 11:00am at St. Ambrose Church, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may call at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes on Thursday from 4 to 7pm. Those who wish to remember Jim in a special way may make a contribution to Parkinson’s Disease Research Fund or Hospice at St. Peter’s Hospital.
